Why it matters

See what each additional purchase does to your average price and portfolio exposure.

Four £2,500 tranches at 20p, 24p, 28p and 32p buy 12,500, 10,416, 8,928 and 7,812 whole shares before costs. The actual spend is £9,999.52, not £10,000; 48p remains unspent.

How it's calculated
Planned shares = floor[(tranche budget − costs) ÷ price in £]
Running average (p) = cumulative spend ÷ cumulative shares × 100
P/L at exit = all shares × exit in £ − total spend − exit costs

The target allocation is a warning threshold, not an automatic order-size limit. Capital allocation uses total purchase cost divided by a fixed portfolio reference; it is not a live market-value weight.

Assumptions & limitations

Planning only: no orders are placed, and future purchases are not assumed to be completed. Costs must be entered manually. Exit prices, liquidity and future tranche fills are not guaranteed. Prices need not rise between rows, but non-rising additions are flagged. This tool does not model borrowing, cash flows between trades or changes in other holdings.
